ÉXITO seeks to provide support for established educators interested in teaching Ethnic and Feminist Studies. Our flagship program, the ÉXITO Summer Institute, combines community members, teachers, and UCSB faculty to discuss and develop tangible solutions to the newly mandated Ethnic Studies graduation requirement. In the near future, we intend to build a digital resource center of lessons and materials for teachers to access. Stay tuned!
Summer Institute
Summer Institute supports and addresses the timely need for educators to meet the Ethnic Studies high school graduation requirement in California. Through this 5-day institute, K-12 educators will gain theoretical and practical knowledge and also work closely with community members doing Ethnic Studies work to best meet the demands of the state, districts, and most importantly, our students.
Training, Community, and Networking
Since our inaugural Summer Institute in 2021, we have partnered with 25 educators from five school districts: Santa Barbara Unified School District, Oxnard Union School District, Ventura Unified School District, Conejo Valley Unified School District, and Minneapolis Public Schools District.
Our Future
The ÉXITO team looks forward to collaborating with teachers across California's central coast to develop thoughtful curricula that incorporates relevant approaches in Ethnic Studies. Stay tuned for information regarding our digital resource center featuring resources for the classroom!
